"What is the TEMPURŪ pressure relieving material"

It is a viscoelastic, open-celled, temperature and weight sensitive material. Originally developed for NASA in the 1970's, it was designed to conform to any individual's body and relieve the pressure of the tremendous G-forces experienced by astronauts during lift-off and flight. In 1992 Tempur-PedicŪ introduced TEMPURŪ pressure-relieving material, the vastly improved reinvention of the original NASA formula, to the United States for home and medical use.

"How does TEMPURŪ pressure-relieving material differ from other products claiming to be viscoelastic?"

Simple. In most cases, those other products have a much lower density, are not as sensitive to your body temperature, are typically too soft to provide any therapeutic support, and do not have the endorsement of over 25,000 medical professionals worldwide. TEMPURŪ pressure relieving material has a density of 5.34 lb/ft, helping to make it much more durable than others having densities of no more than 3.8 lb/ft.

"Is TEMPURŪ pressure-relieving material different from foam?"

TEMPURŪ pressure-relieving material is viscoelastic and made up of billions of spherical shaped, open cells that are temperature and weight sensitive, allowing it to become softer in warmer areas (where your body is making the most contact with the surface) and remain firmer in cooler areas (where less body contact is being made). Therefore, TEMPUR pressure-relieving material is able to conform to any body shape or size - even the hard to reach lumbar area of your back. Foam is not as sensitive to temperature and will not conform to your body's unique shape.

"Isn't it better for you to sleep on a hard mattress?"

Absolutely not. A hard, non-conforming surface forces your body to adapt to its flat shape, bending your spine into an unnatural position and creating pressure points at the shoulders, hips, and feet, which can cause you to toss and turn trying to find a more comfortable position. The result: lower back pain and less restful sleep.

"Is there a 'breaking-in' or 'adjustment' period associated with your product?"
Most customers are very comfortable the very first night. Others may need a few nights to get used to the increased support they experience in their lumbar or lower-back area.

"Does the Tempur-PedicŪ mattress require any special care or protective pad?"
None whatsoever. And, unlike conventional mattresses, it never needs to be turned or rotated. The anti-mite and allergen resistant treated cover protects the TEMPURŪ pressure-relieving material. Tempur-PedicŪ's cover is so advanced that it eliminates the need for conventional mattress pads altogether.

"Can Tempur-PedicŪ products help reduce the effects of allergies?"
Tempur-PedicŪ products are 100% CFC-free and allergy resistant. Tempur-PedicŪ mattresses and pillows feature our anti-mite and anti-allergy treated cover that helps make them resistant to bacteria, mold, mildew, mites, and odor-causing germs.
